African Dance and Percussion Group
The Ivorian ethnic group of Akkan use the phrase Yamo-Yamo to egg on
hard workers. The Dance and Percussion Group Yamo Yamo consists of
extremely talented musicians, dancers and singers, who have origins
in several West-African countries such as Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso,
Togo, Mali and Senegal.
Yamo Yamo was established in 1997. It has
evolved into an ideal representative of Africa's rich cultures,
through the enthusiasm and persistence of its members. It reflects
African traditions and daily life, which makes every show a source of
energy and gives a different outlook on Africa.
The founder of the group, Georges Soro, is a dancer and choreographer from Ivory Coast.
For years he has toured Europe and Africa with Les Ballets Dolêmes,
l'Ensemble Koteba d'Abidjan and Le Ballet Nationale de Côte-d'Ivoire,
which are the best known companies in Ivory Coast. |
